Royal Doulton
The
history of Royal Doulton is a long and varied one stretching from
the Victorian era to the present day. From humble beginnings as
clay pipe and sanitary ware manufacturers they have developed into
makers of high quality tableware and ornaments.
In
the 1930's they exploited the current trends for Art Deco with a
range of designs such as Tango, Syren and Gaylee which have become
classic Art Deco images.
Collectors should note that these designs are
particularly prone to crazing - ie. the slight shrinkage of the
clay body after glazing which causes the rigid glaze to crack. This
can even happen years later if pieces are subjected to extremes
of temperature.
Crazing is not considered a defect if it has
not stained and is only really visible on close inspection rather
than on display. |
